Jill Scott, the daughter of Joyce Scott in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was born April 4 April 1972. She was raised by her grandmother and she was an only child. Scott went to the Philadelphia High School for Girls when she was a senior, and then she was accepted into Temple University. She took secondary school classes there while working two jobs. Her dream was to be a English high school teacher. The dream of becoming an English teacher at high school was shattered when she quit school. Following her first gigs doing live poetry shows and eventually, she teamed up with Amir Quest Thompson of The Roots. They wrote You Got Me together. Then, during Roots performance she showed herself to be an artist. After that, she was able to negotiate collaborations with people like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. Also, she was an actor during the Canada stage of the Broadway musical production Rent. She was hired to Hidden Beach Recordings as their first signing artist.
