Jill Scott (n e Joyce Scott) was born to her mother on 4th April in 1972. Jill Scott was raised by her maternal grandparents and mother. The only child she has. Scott attended her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Following her graduation her school, she went to Temple University. While working two jobs and studying secondary education, she continued her studies. Her goal was to be an high school English teacher. However, she was not able to achieve her dream, however, when after studying for three years while working as a teacher assistant, she left college. Her first job was as a spoken word artist who performed her own works during live poetry readings. She ultimately joined to Amir Quest love Thompson of The Roots. They were able to collaborate in writing You Got Me. During a Roots performance, she came out to be an artist. She then secured collaborations, which included Eric Benet Will Smith, and Common. Additionally, she was able to learn about the arts of performing during the Canada-wide tour of Broadway's musical Rent. She became the first signed artist for the Hidden Beach Recordings label.
